Shot with an epic sensibility, Roads of Water investigates the social and psychological condition of communities along the Amazon and the ways nature both determines and reflects human life. Its horizontal, branching edit echoes the river system itself: people come and go like currents, while boats become convoys carrying settlers towards an uncertain future.

Ken Vandermark’s original score gives the film a resonant musical architecture. The film opened the 2012 Rome Film Festival in the presence of Danielle Mitterrand and received worldwide patronage from UNESCO.
